UNH Chemistry Department Planning a Chemistry Teaching Summer Institute for 2013

The UNH Chemistry Department is planning a two-week chemistry teaching summer institute for 2013.  Join with experienced chemistry teachers to expand your knowledge and share your understanding.
In order to plan a valuable program,  please share this with any teachers and administrators in your town, school or district who could also give us feedback, and who might be interested in such an institute.

Possible Program Offerings

  • Addressing mathematics and conceptual issues in teaching and learning chemistry
  • Problem-solving with conceptual understanding; the misconception literature
  • Exposure to POGIL and other research-based pedagogies
  • Reading-to-Learn Chemistry
  • Examining various syllabi; what is best for your school and your students, STEM
  • Curricula, life-science curricula, ChemCom, AP or IB, student research? What to leave in – what to leave out?Laboratory planning and logistics; opportunities to design your own experiments
  • Lecture-demonstrations to compliment instruction
  • The use of current analytical instrumentation
  • Modern chemistry short-topics

Additional suggestions are appreciated!  This is still in the planning stages.  Pre-service teachers could also be involved.
